Hi,,

Fitness tips are everywhere nowadays, from books to fitness magazines to infomercial products and programs.

On the one hand, this is great. The more quality fitness information you can get your hands on the better off you'll be.

The keyword there is 'quality' and that brings us to the downside of all this information.

It's not all good. A lot of it is bad information but at least the worst that may happen is that you'll struggle to make progress.

The real problem with some of these fitness tips is that they are downright dangerous and could cause serious health and fitness problems for you.

Unfortunately, these tips appear in popular magazines and books all the time.

I just read one in a major fitness magazine that made my blood boil. It's a sure fire way to hurt yourself, possibly damaging your back for life.

One of the fitness tips was for increasing your vertical jump by performing sets of jump squats with a weighted barbell on your back!

Are you kidding me? Sure, do this. If you want to end up in the hospital.

The article suggests you take 30% of your normal squat weight and perform the squat in the following manner. Squat down like a normal squat but then explode upward jumping as high as you possibly can.

Land with "soft" knees it says. Reset your feet. That's one rep. Do three sets of 8 - 10 reps.

Is it just me? Can this magazine, full of supposed fitness experts, not see how incredibly dangerous this is? Do they really think it's a good thing to do jump squats with a loaded barbell on your back?

Every time I think things are getting better in the fitness industry, I come across "advice" like this.

Be careful with the fitness tips and advice you receive.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little common sense to know if the advice makes sense.

And then there's the infomercial I saw this morning. But that's another story.
