Muscle Building Nutrition
By Will Brink
Muscle Building Nutrition - A Review
Muscle Building Nutrition, by well known and respected health, fitness and medical consultant Will Brink (author of the excellent Diet Supplements Revealed - reviewed here), is a top notch piece of work.
However, this book is not for everyone. If your main goal is to lose fat, check out my reveiw of Will's Diet Supplements Revealed, or my own book, Fit Physique.
But if you are looking to build muscle, read on.
The title,
Muscle Building Nutrition
doesn't do this book justice. It contains so much more than nutrition for muscle building.
For example, if you spend money on any strength and size performance enhancing supplements (methoxy, prohormones, creatine, tribulis, etc.), you'll need to check this book out.
Will reviews these 'size builders' and others and gives you the straight scoop on what works and what doesn't. Let me tell you, very few of these 'hot' products get Will's approval.
Section 1 - Will gives a comprehensive rundown on muscle building nutrition, including an in depth discussion of the three macronutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, fats). Another great point is Will's revising of the poorly designed food pyramid.
Will goes a little more in depth with very detailed instruction on determining your ideal caloric intake, as well as specific gram requirements for the macronutrients.
Section 2 - This is where Will gives you the truth on the seriously over-hyped 'muscle builder' supplements on the market today.
Will's reviews of the top muscle building supplements will leave you wondering how so many supplement companies can be making so much money.
Methoxyflavone? One of the more popular and expensive supplements around, it just doesn't cut it, according to Will. Prohormones? Expensive urine, with the exception of 1-AD and some 1-Test products.
Side note Even with all the other high quality information in this book, this section alone makes this book a priceless purchase.
I'm always experimenting with supplements, hoping against hope that the next one might actually live up to half its hype. Will keeps me informed with unbiased top notch info, and keeps money in my wallet.
Section 3 - This section was done by Charles Poliquin. If you don't know who Charles is, he's a world renown strength coach, who has trained man Olympic athletes, NHL hockey players and NFL football players, as well as many elite strength trainers. Charles gives you
a run down on his 21 Training Principles.
Side note Although I don't agree with everything Charles has to say (I disagree greatly on his take regarding training to failure), he has a goldmine of training information that will benefit anyone looking
to add some muscle or strength, as well as improve their sports performance.
Just like Diet Supplements Revealed, Muscle Building Nutrition includes some great goodies, like the Inner Ring message boards, etc.
The verdict...
If you are looking to build pounds of muscle
If you spend money on supplements that are supposed to help you build muscle and gain weight
If you do any sort of strength/weight training,
then Will's book,
Muscle Building Nutrition
is a must have.
