Treadmills - Reviews
Treadmills are a fantastic choice for walkers and runners alike. They give you a wonderful way to get in your cardio exercise quickly and conveniently without having to battle the weather or traffic to get to the gym.
After all these years they are still the #1 fitness machine on the market today. In addition, the more recent models are built for endurance and comfort, to minimize the impact forces that you get from running out on the pavement. They are a very efficient piece of exercise equipment to burn calories and lose fat, which is why they are extremely popular. Make sure to look for one with a motor that is continuous duty with a rating of at least 2.0 HP. Continuous duty motors give you constant maximum power. Non continuous motors are unable to run smoothly for an extended period of time. Another important aspect of quality is the warranty. With an average warranty you can expect about 3 years on the motor, 2 years for the belt and deck, another 2 on the electronic parts, and 1 year on labor. The overall price of the treadmill plays a part too. Obviously, lower cost models will not carry long warranties. However, Smooth (my top pick), carry a minimum 5 year warranty the motor, tops in the industry. Make sure to select one that accommodates your stride with an adequate length and width. The deck should be at least 53" x 18". If you are a runner and tall, you may want to consider a "stretch" model. The deck should have a reasonable amount of cushion for minimal impact on your feet, ankles and knees. Several manufacturers offer extra thick cushioned decks as an option. Spirit is your best option if you are looking for one that does a great job of reducing the impact forces. So if you have any previous leg injuries and don't want to pound them, check out Spirit. For variety you'll want a treadmill with incline control and computerized programming. Incline control simulates an uphill climb, while the electronics can be programmed to create a diversity of running or walking experiences. Treadmills come in a number of different styles with varying features and huge price ranges. Check out our reviews on the different one's available from the following top companies.
