If you plan on using it to do some dumbbell exercises, or abdominal work, an inexpensive bench is just fine. However, if you plan on doing things like barbell bench pressing and other heavier weight exercises, you are better off spending a few extra bucks on a higher quality bench with more safety features. Besides, even if you are just using it for some occasional dumbbell work, you are still better off waiting for a higher quality bench that will last you a lifetime. Would you rather spend a hundred bucks on a shoddy bench that will be a piece of junk in a year or two and could hurt you or spend $200 or a little more for a safe bench that will last a lifetime?
